We forgot the so enthusiast Santa Fe group who started anew what also Poincaré had found. The sun is no point and earth neither. When you are very carefully you can look at the sun. What do you think is all mass concentrate in one gravity point. That is a very broad abstraction,
Layers we see. And we can deal with them in a relatively easy way. That is science and useful to work out more. I have given only the qualitative story.
But the Santa Fe group didn't see layers everywhere also in the population and close to us. But they talked about how those layers were connected. By physical emergence. This not mathematical emergence. That is an abstraction.
Physical emergence is that you really gain something locally and reach a higher layer of coherence. And a part stays at a lower LOD (Level of detail), and this is physics.
Locally real loss and locally real gain. Nice notions for mathematics. Knowledge is also certainly local.

But mathematicians came and abstracted what scientists began and forgot the things they were talking about. Please read that book. It's a darling of a book.
And we don't forget them. Marvelous scientists.
I have worked out their ideas. Sure I am also a pure mathematician.
