Since when is 1 * 32.2 = 1?
The neat thing about "coherent" units is that the formulas have NO
conversion factors required. The alternative is questions like: "A
2500 lb car accelerates from rest to a speed of 500 000 furlongs per
fortnight in 2 minutes. Calculate the power output of the car in
horsepower." The physics is trivial; the unit conversions are
horrendous.
Anyway, the three coherent systems I know, in which F=ma with no
conversion factors, are the "kilogram --- newton --- m/s^2" system, the
"slug --- pound force --- foot/s^2" system, and the seldom mentioned
"pound mass --- poundal --- foot/s^2" system.
So f=mg <<does>> give force (in poundals), when you multiply
pounds-mass and feet/s^2
.
