Integrated Math

I'm reading newspaper articles about states that integrate math into other
courses but then do not have separate math courses. To complicate the issue
further they can have minimum graduation standards such as Algebra II.

(And developing a viewpoint very quickly here, the math problems integrated
into other courses might morph the problems found on standardized testing
and thus standardized testing might be driving eductation ?)

Well, I think instead that students should be allowed to specialize and that
standardized testing should be reduced.

For instance a student might specialize in math and science or a student
might specialize in math and computer science but in either case those
students would not be required to take analysis of literature for instance.
And those students specializing in analysis of literature would not be
required to take math beyond an introduction to algebra.

But furthermore the math classes could be dedicated math classes but teach
popular topics similar to the enthusiansm of topics posted on internet
newsgroups.
