No, keep going -- who knows, you might develop an alternate proof of
the 4 Color Conjecture (although I guess it's no longer a conjecture).
Of course, you know it's unlikely to succeed, but it's still a
worthwhile quest, and in the process you are sure to gain valuable
insights. But to avoid crankdom, try hard to stay rigorous.
