on the other hand, maybe it is better compared to the
"self-consciousness of knowledge", a well-known phrase which refers to
a change in many areas of thought in the past few centuries.
So my problem is really that such concepts seem to involve a kind of
ambiguity that I really haven't been able to clear up.
