If he means "key into a calculator" (which is a perfectly reasonable
meaning of "calculate with" even if it isn't what a mathematician would
mean by it) then it is true that he can't key point nine recurring into
a calculator.
With calculators being so common in schools nowadays, it may well be
that my proposed meaning for shepherdmoon's phrase is exceedingly
common, but that's just a guess.
I realize that none of the above has any bearing on the "Does 0.999... =
1?" problem; but it may just hint at a problem that the (over?) use of
calculators in schools is causing.
