Google doesn't even do that in many cases. A vigorously discussed
topic can easily have a reply separated by a page boundary from the
original.

Even when they're on the same page, it often requires using the tree
navigation to work out which message they're replying to, and after
that there's still the chore of trying to intuit the context they had
in mind when they were posting.

If they had anything in their mind at all, which often seems doubtful.
