Hi,
The news of Serge's death has been pretty slow to spread; other than
the YDN obit, I've been alerted to this: http://www.NewAIdsReview.com
All accounts are that Lang's health had been in decline for a while, at
least as far back as last year when he made the surprising (to many of
us) decision to retire. But I have a report from at least one grad
student who saw Serge 11 Sept., vigorous as ever and outpacing his
companion on a walk down the street.
The Yale Math dept. apparently is arranging a memorial of some type for
late October/early November.
If I learn anything more of substance, I'll be happy to pass it along.
