a point X (x,y,w), and distance d = d(X,C), can someone show me how to easily derive the closest point to X, which is part of C?

I see two equations: one for the distance, one for the conic, both quadratic, yet one intersection point? Two quadratic equations don't define a single solution, do they?

Enlighten me please, I've lost enough time on this already :/
