A question on connectedness of premage

Can anyone give a sufficient condition for the connectedness of the preimage of {y}, where surjective but non-injective continuous function f: x to y is defined on a subset of R^(n+1) onto R^n? The domain of the function is connected, closed, convex, and contains an (n+1)-dimensional open ball. Many thanks
