I've had to struggle with this sort of problem, and it's a bit tricky. In
my experience "Least Trimmed Squares" works well and requires few
parameters. This is described at http://www.agoras.ua.ac.be/Robustn.htm,
and googling returns many hits.
I've had little sucess with schemes that try to throw away (or down
weight) bad data points one at a time; these can easily get confused
and start out by throwing away a good one and then continuing down that
path..
