It's worth noting that the use of 'd' in most treatments
of thermodynamics is unprincipled and incorrect. For a treatment
that makes sense, you might try Bernard Schutz's "Geometric
methods of mathematical physics".
But before that, make sure you're solid on partial
differentiation.
