An interesting rider to the question. Particuarly so as quite a number
of posters have agreed, at least in part, with Penrose platonic view.
Non-mathematical people tend not to be platonists, philosophers,
particularly, who've thought about the matter hard, believe, in the
main, that platonism is nonsense.
It is an intersting dividing question. If I had a person in a room and
I was allowed one question to tell if he's a mathematician or a
philosopher, it would be a question on platonism. If I was allowed two,
then it would be 'what is e to the i pi?'.
