What's the point of teaching Riemannian sums? It's useful in theory but
never in pratice. Just teach them ..
Just teach them how to use Maple and get on to some real math.
Calculus is dumb.
In order to use Maple intelligently, you need to know quite a bit of
math. You have to learn to walk before you can run. Students who can't
understand the Riemann sums will have even more trouble with the "real
math".
Ok. Teach them how to use Mathematica then. Students who can't
understand Riemann sums should not be shut out of mathematics. There
are plenty of other, interesting, areas of mathematics they should be
encouraged to explore. Who knows, some may even discover how useful
integration is.
