Re: Help check my proof please?

(3) Now what happens if you sum the columns in step (2)?
For the left side n=1-3, I get either 2.28445705 or 1 + ((1/2) * 2) +
((1/3) * 3).....

Point is, I don't know. I'm guessing, you've seen my work, maybe you
can figure out my skill level by it. I might be able to learn how to
make lasagna from guessing over and over but I'd waste less ingredients
with a recipe. I am a computer guy taking my last math class. I have
been programming for 7-8 years and haven't ever needed to do a proof to
make a program work. I am frustrated because I have read all you've
wrote over and over and thought about this one problem all weekend to
still come up short. I really have tried to use your hints and
everytime I think I understand what your saying, I get the *GONG*
blaring in my ears. You see how many times I've posted what I thought
was pure brilliance, I am not looking for a free ride. But I do know
when I just don't get it.

n-1 < n => sqrt(n-1) < sqrt(n) since the function sqrt(x) is an
increasing function.

sqrt(n-1) < sqrt(n) => 1/sqrt(n-1) > 1/sqrt(n) since the function 1/x
is a decreasing function on the interval (0,infinity).

I get this (I think, I've been wrong a lot recently) and I see that
your saying the same thing I said. Right?

4) 1/sqrt(n-1) + 1/sqrt(n) >= 2/sqrt(n)

Right.

Glad I got one right.

5) 2/sqrt(n) = (n/n) * sqrt(n)

I don't know what else you mean by simplify the RHS than show how
n/sqrt(n) = sqrt(n)

which is n/n * sqrt(n) = 1 * sqrt(n) = sqrt(n) Right?
If not please let me know

(4) Take a look back at the actual statement of what you're trying to
prove. What part of the result of step 3 matches perfectly against
what you're trying to prove? If part of the result matches perfectly,
it makes sense to leave it alone.

I don't know what you mean here, the part that matches is 1/sqrt(n) but
I have to work with the sum of the function right? not just 1/sqrt(n)

I have just explained everything that I know about this problem. If it
isn't above it is not in my head.
