Professor Yau from the my eye

Not many mathematicians build a new branch of math. Yau happened to be one. I should say in asia, only Kodaira stays in the same level as Yau. I admire S.S.Chern. However, he is not as original as Yau. In a sense, Ch
ern is a bit lucky if you consider the help from Weil. Anyway, I don't want to compare Chern and Yau here.
Yau is definitely one of the best mathematician alive now. I would list: Atiyah, Witten, Serre, Yau, Deligne, Gromov, Wiles in one level (maybe some other guys I forgot). Donaldson is almost in this list. But he is a little bit low key and not working that hard. I.M.Singer should be kicked out from the list. If he hadn't met Atiyah, it could have been no way for him to work out index theorem. However, Atiyah could still find some other analysist to discover the index theorem. If
Grothendieck is alive, he will definitely be no.1.
ST Yau is not that far from No.1. But he is almost there.
