I'm not aware of any evidence of James being violent, and being
subjected to the furious ranting of an angry crank, while an unpleasant
experience, hardly constitutes being in any real danger.
So you have the amazing ability to predict the outcome a heated
discussion?
Of course not. What makes you think that I do?
And you might be so furious as to suggest said person is a liar.
And needs to be fired for teaching lies to the students.
And when said person picks up the phone to dial security to have
you ejected, you might try to take the phone away from him.
And you might then engage in a violent struggle over the phone.
Is there some reason to suppose this has or will happen with James?
There are, in the news, many people who appear to be genuinely
dangerous, but there is scarce reason to think James is one of them.
Wasn't Ted Kazinsky considered to be a harmless crank?
How people felt about Kazinsky is not really relevant. Alexander Abian was considered a harmless crank, though, and didn't harm anyone; the same is true of any number of famous USENET deities.
