Re: JSH: Measuring post impact

Reality testing is an important part of critical thinking.

It sure is, and is something you should remember /before/ posting your next
theorem that's refuted by the same counterexample that killed your last
theorem.

Theorems can't be killed. A theorem is something that is actually
true.

Someone can claim "theorem" when what they have is NOT a theorem.

Precision in use of the term is very important, and as for my many
mistakes while figuring things out, well, that's part of extreme
mathematics!!!

My position is, I don't care too much about all the mistakes made in
getting to the right answer, as long as you get to the right answer.

My secondary point is that many of you DO NOT reality test, as can be
seen by replies in this thread.

Coming from James "Testing would take too much time -- I'm the theory guy"
Harris, that's hilarious.

Hey, I understand you are now in the weak position so what is left to
you are gratuitous insults.

Most posters here care about what's mathematically true, and have no
interest whatsoever in measuring the "social impact" of what they post.
Perhaps a quack trying to sell snake oil would care about that?

Posters post to be read. That's quite simple. I mean, you don't make
your post thinking that no one else will read it, or even hoping that
only I will read it, but with the expecation that it will be read by
others.

Reasonably you would like to maximize the number of interested people
who would read your posts, and minimize those who are turned off by
clumsiness on your part, or disinterest in your style or something else
that should be non-material, but in the real world, is not.

So necessity is that to get your message across you pay attention to
how well your postings have gotten across--if you wish to improve in
the "game".

That's the real world. Try to play like you're above it or something
and yes, you will get soundly beaten, over and over again, and find, as
you do now, that whatever attention you get is on my coat-tails, so to
speak.

The forum here is international. The newsgroups are one of the few
ways that just about anyone can go immediately to an international
audience with a message, and they are very brutal in terms of not
giving you the time of day if you do not send your message well.

If you do the Google searches seriously you will see my posts picked up
in some way indicating interest in newsgroup forums around the world,
so that they are noted in Cyrillic, or Spanish, or Italian or even
Arabic.

Now then, what about your posts in comparison?

You may not realize the reality of this forum, or how much exposure my
postings actually get, as you sit at home or wherever you are, feeling
like it's a big world.

But it's a small world thanks to technology, and I am one of the people
who takes center stage--as objectively proven by doing some reality
testing versus going wiith what you THINK is the reality.
