That's what I wanted to say. The term "normal" is also used in a lot of
places.
Similarly, |*| can denote absolute value or the determinant of a
matrix, which led me to the following "proof" that 1 = -1:
1 = abs(-1) = | -1 | = det(-1) = -1.
