A member of the sci.math newsgroup managed to get past my
screening and join the group, revealing himself when he
systematically down rated all of my posts.

I have banned that person from the group.

It shows you how these people operated.

James Harris

James, this is for you: /anyone/ can rate the posts there.

Sonofagon, you're right; thanks for the info! I just added to his
paranoia. Tee-hee-hee. 8-)

For example, if
you look you'll see that your "Sabotage!" post is now rated 5 stars by 1
user. I just did that, and no, I've made (and will make) no attempt to join
that group.

Alas, what it really shows is your paranoia in action. Given that your
group is now down to 1 member (presumably you), you might want to reconsider
your decision to ban someone for no apparent real reason at all.

He doesn't seem to realize what the implications are of only having one
member (presumably himself).

Then again, let that stand and it will make another "fun story" to add to
your legend ;-)

That is a classic. Up there with "when I rotated a parabola, I got a
hyperbola".

Maybe if he gets a little further along on his reading, he can multiply
sin(x) by e^(-x) and say he's discovered a Bessel function...
