Re: JSH: One mystery remains

Some of you Usenetters forget that you get to post for free because a
lot of other people are paying the bills.

So I assume JSH is paying for his access?

Everyone in the real world pays for Internet access. That leaves out
academics and James, although James probably pays anyway. And while your
university may not charge you directly for Internet access, they
nevertheless pay for it -- if their budget is finite they can't use that
money for something else you may value. TANSTAAFL.

With all that mind, I have no idea what James thinks he's on about here.
Sounds most like another attempt at "proof by preposterous threat".

(If he's using Google Groups, he isn't, though, since Google Mail is
free.)

Right, Google Groups doesn't charge him to post to Usenet. MSN charges him
for his MSN account, which may or may not include charges for Internet
access (depending on which kind of MSN account he has -- IIRC, the only
Internet access MSN offers directly is dialup, for about US$22/month).

JSH pays so that he can post his garbage. Others, who refute the
garbage, don't have to pay.

Seems fair to me.

I expect I pay enough for both of us ;-)
