det(A + tB) = det(A B^-1 + t I) * det(B)

and why is that? You have such a strong feeling to say such a comment
about it so what is the reason? Is it not to hard to see that A/B =
A*B^(-1). Sure it might be symbolically different about its 1/5 of the
number of symbols to write and just adds confusion when typing in ASCII
with no benefit. So you might not like it but thats tough unless you can
give a good reason against it.

How do you note B^(-1)*A ? Is it A\B ?

No, I have never used that symbol. Your other post assumes I use it or it
has some meaning to me. It doesn't. A/B = A*B^(-1) and its that simple which
I have pointed out many times. A\B means nothing to me and you can define it
how you want. AGAIN! I do not write A/B on paper because its just as easy to
notate it the proper way. if I have to express B^(-1)*A then I would most
likely write B^(-1)*A but I might write 1/B*A on usenet.

I can't believe you guys call yourself mathematicians yet get confused over
such basic symbol manipulations. I guess you had a very rough time in group
theory when they told you that + is called a binary operator and 2 + 2 does
not always mean 4. I guess people like you are the kinda the have to invent
new operators to get over the *confusion*? Hey, lets draw a circle around
the + so we don't get confused. (not that I'm not saying its not waranted
in some cases).

Get over it. This is usenet and not some math class. If you want to bitch
about it then I suggest you write a new usenet protocol that includes the
use of some mathematical typesetting language like latex so we all can be
perfectly clear on the notation. I don't see anyone bitching about using int
to represent an integral sign. Why? Cause it doesn't matter. Just like A/B
doesn't matter. Any confusion can easily be cleared up with "What do you
mean by A/B" instead of whining like 2 year that you get confused because
you think it means commutative division(For all that matter it could mean
addition over the padics. It could mean convolution. Obviously you guys know
what it means or you wouldn't bitch about it. What your bitching about is
the abuse or slight confusion it *could* cause. Actually I have not seen one
person get confused by it.

Anyways. Bitch if you must. I'm through with this thread.
