Hello group, I have a problem that I hope someone here can help with.
I am looking for a good place to find basic math definitions. I would
like basic definitions for words like number, numeral, integer,
exponent, power, factor, zero, infinity. I have tried many sources
such as Meriam-Webster Online Dictionary, American Heretage
Dictionary, Wikipedia, McGraw-Hill Encyclopedia of Science and
Technology. I am finding that, for the most part, good, complete,
accurate definitions are lacking.

If there is someone out there who is as obsessed with comming up with
or finding good, complete definitions for basic math concepts, I would
like to confer with them.

I believe that accomplishing this task will provide a necessary
foundation for any students of mathematics. Furthurmore, I believe
that a concrete understanding of the basic terms would give students,
such as myself, more confidence while building on their knowledge.

Maybe you can explain where exactly do have problem with the wikipedia
definitions (they look mostly ok to me) in addition you can check:

http://eom.springer.de/
http://planetmath.org/
http://plato.stanford.edu/contents.html
http://kr.cs.ait.ac.th/%7Eradok/math/mat/lastind.htm#COMPREHENSIVE%20INDEX

This one looks quite good as well.

It seems not to assume too great a mathematical knowledge.

I am not quite sure that accomplishing the task that you speak of will
necessarily help you move forward in your study of mathematics.

I wasn't speaking of any task - i assume you mean the op - in that case
best address him directly or react to his original posting - otherwise he
might overlook it.

Is it not obvious that I was referring to the OP. Newsgroups don't permit
3-way discussion.
