online programming course

I would like to take a programming course online, and I would
appreciate some advice. I have no programming knowledge whatsoever.
I am interested in number theoretic applications, for example, "how
many ways can an even number be expressed as the sum of two prime
numbers?" What might be the best programming language for such
applications? Thanks
