I have just spent a couple hours perusing the various pages for the
LaTeX program materials. Smith's page, latex project page, TUG's
pages, Knuth's page, MikTex page... lot's of talk of mirror sites,
drivers, FTPs, files galore, and so much other stuff.

egads!

Isn't there any way to just click a download link, run install, have
an icon appear on your desktop, and just open it and start?

Do I really have to learn so much about file structure, storage,
unzipping files, software transmission and execution of same and on
and on and on to use this product?

Do they purposely keep like it this to make it all seem more cerebral
and intimidating to newbies?
