Yeah, but I'm interested in the general mathematical algorithm,
which is independent of any specific programming languages,
hence my reason for coming to sci.math.
Have you checked out Knuth's _Seminumerical_Algorithms_ (Vol. 2 of
_The_Art_of_Computer_Programming_)? The material you are looking for is
in chapter 4.
