who is the other guy ?

sorry im from europe ...

Grothendieck was perhaps the greatest mathematician
of the 20th
century.

He was eccentric, he focused a great deal on the
fundamental approach
in solving a problem, he had problems with the
established political
order and to some degree, the math community as well,
and he tended to
not publish papers as much as tracts or long letters
on various
aspects of math that people have collected (because
his thoughts and
actually his way of thinking about problems is of
interest).

So, you see, JSH is almost *exactly* like him, except
for the part
about him knowing any math.

ill stick with andrew wiles, matheyasevich, john conway borwein, smith and sundman for best mathematicians of the 20th century...

Interesting list. Not really bad (except for Borwein), but maybe not complete... Have you looked at things called Fields medals and Abel prizes?

i might not know all famous mathematicians

A distinct possibility

but i dont recall anything called after him ...

Bad memory, and/or poor knowledge. Why am I not surprised?

but i admit not knowing about him ...

ive never seen a paper referring to him , are you sure he is that good ??

We are. Hint: try "Algebraic Geometry", or "Topos", or...

learn me something about him ...

if he resembles JSH i find it hard to believe he is the greatest mathematician ....

You are not very good at sarcasmand humor, are you? So I wil have to make my replies to you more explicit, I am afraid...
