Hi,
I just got my Master's degree at an applied-leaning school and I want
to research the problem of factoring large integers somewhere else for
a PhD. Which school are doing the most research in factoring these
days?
at this point you should look for professors you would like to study
under
any of the lenstras might be an interesting study
(a k or h w jr)
lovasz
....
arjen is in lausanne i think
while hendrik is over at berkeley
some very interesting developments have been occurring
in elliptic curve factoring exploiting p-adic height data
n p smart has been doing brilliant stuff here
nigel's over at the university of bristol
check out the literature and contact professors who interest you
you may not be able to immediately guarantee any research relations
but starting early and becoming familiar with the programmes
will make the options clearer and give you more control
