Hi!
I have two functions f and g
both are defined on the closed interval [0,1 1/3]
both are continuous
both are decreasing
both have identical functional values at x=0 and x=1 1/3
both are defined implicity
But fsolve in Maple gives me the following results:
f(1.3333333333)=0.0000069183269553032397676
g(1.3333333333)=0.0000075686412923709951259
more than a 9% difference
Have I proved that f=/= g ?
That 1.3333333333 is awfully close to 1 1/3, where you say the two functions
are equal. So, without knowing more about your functions, I'd be rather
suspicious that the difference you're looking at might be due to roundoff
error.
