Clearly, the problem JSH has solved here is that the CD and DVD
hardware manufactureres are not making enough money.

To implement JSH's idea would require that every CD and DVD
reader and writer be replaced, at a staggering cost to the
consumer.

Now, what could possibly be wrong with that brilliant idea?

Well, they're doing it for TVs here in the USA. Every TV will have to
be HDTV-ready a few years from now, making 100% of the sets bought
before 2003 obsolete.

Whoever thought that one up probably peed his pants out of excitement.
