P.S. Hey, Mensanator, or anyone, take a look at the nude ballet dancer
here:
http://www.news.com.au/perthnow/story/0,21598,22492511-5005375,00.htm...
What direction do you see her rotating?
I really can't see her rotating counterclockwise. Strange. According
to that, I am thus a right brain, touchy-feely kinda guy. Which
explains the state of my career as a logician, I suppose.
When that link was posted on a forum I use a few weeks ago, the first
time I looked at it she seemed to be moving anticlockwise, and I found
it very difficult to reverse the direction in my head. Now, though,
when I look at it again it is the other way round. However I have a
theory that this has less to do with the handedness of my brain than
with the angle from which I look at my monitor. Note that if she is
moving clockwise it appears that you are watching her from a higher
angle than if she is moving anticlockwise, so it would stand to reason
that if your eyes are at a higher level than the monitor then you
expect to view the dancer from above and will therefore see her moving
clockwise, for example. Do other people find that this prediction
works?
It's funny, I concentrated on the foot and its shadow, and when I did
that, the figure reversed direction (seemingly). So, I opened up a
Mozilla version of it right next to an IE version of it, and noticed
that when I concentrated on one's foot (and its shadow), it would move
in the other direction while the other browser's version would stay in
the same direction. Then, I would concentrate on the other browser -
the foot touching its shadow on the floor - and it would change
direction. I could change direction this way and have both browsers
in agreement, or disagreement.
When I first went to the website, I saw the dancer going clockwise and
that would agree with me being touchy-feely as my wife comments almost
daily how I forget things related to our marriage.
Anyways, the Mozilla version spins much faster than the IE version.
Has anyone viewed the source to see how it is programmed?
It seemed intiguing. I could care less if someone thinks I am
right-brained or left-brained. My marriage would go smoother if my
wife believed I was right-brained.
Brian
