Real Business Math Problem

Hi all,

I'm trying to figure out the easiest way to explain how a rate can
increase for one running total but decrease for another running total
even those both increment the same over a smaller period of time.
Here is an example:

MTD YTD
Week 1 Week 2 Week 1 Week 2
Delayed Volume 11738 15038 42956 46256
Pass Volume 408432 511263 1147911 1250742
Delay Rate 2.87% 2.94% 3.74% 3.70%

Delta for Delayed 3300 3300
Delta for Pass Volume 102831 102831

Question is how can we have an increase for MTD but a decrease for YTD
if the numerator and denominator increased the same 3300 and 102831
respectively.

Thanks for the help! Email answers at dv8down2u@xxxxxxxxx
