I'm sure seeing a lot of it today. Anyone else?

Yes. Some of it from users of Google Groups. Here's what I got:

not so much... but my ISP filters out the garbage from Google, as many
_USENET_ servers do...
Google groups is not a usenet server.

It is very astonishable how much information is provided. Google even
tells me, how often all messages of mine was looked at.

No.
It won't say you how many times _I_ read your messages and which ones.
Just because I don't use Google to read them !
Usenet is not Google groups, don't confuse.

... So a spammer, who knows that very
often he is annoying people and has to fear a reaction somhow

Spammers don't care about that, they just spam. And even when they have
return from 0.001% of readers, they are happy of that.
Also many of them are just mischievous and just want to flood the
system and destroy.
Also they have no international pursuits to fear...

BTW there is a link on Google group to signal a message to their abuse.
May be signalling more spam through this link will help Google to ban
spammers from its own domain.

Regards.
