Are fractals really *used* in short term weather forecasting?
Dirk Vdm
I tell my students (many hope to become
engineers), when they ask about
immediate applicability of what I lecture about:
Imagine a customer who would approach a baker and
demand that the loaf of
bread be edible during every stage of its preparation.
You don't want to
hear the unpublishable reply.
Cheers, ZVK(Slavek).
Applause!
From where I am standing, silence.
You don't think he makes a valid point about the
relationship between research and utility?
Sure, he makes a perfectly valid point about the relationship
between research and utility. But that does not answer my
factual question, not does it say anything about whether fractals
*might, will, or even can ever* be used in short term weather
forecasting.
So the point he makes is irrelevant to the question I asked.
No big deal however - my silence was meant to somewhat
counterbalance the inappropriate out-of-context applause :-)
Of course fractals will be used for weather forecasting.
