the only mention of tobacco I find there is

Yes, sorry, perhaps my insinuation was a bit too subtle for you.
Maybe if I put it differently, you'd understand:
I would much rather commit slow suicide with cigars and cigarettes from lung
cancer, than having to deal with this disease for, say, another 10-20 years,
after having dealt with it for 18 years, already.
Fast suicide is not an option, because:
a) guns are illegal in Greece and
b) I cannot consciously override my primordial directive for survival ;o)
