I agree -- as long as MoeBlee is not equating
sincerity in wanting to learn with having
sufficient finances to afford materials that
assisting one in learning.

I can't speak for tommy1729 as far as this
sincerity is concerned, but as for my own
sincerity in wanting to learn, I want to
learn as much math as I can without breaking
the bank. And having discussions on usenet is,
for me, an inexpensive way to learn.

Now, I admit that Ullrich doesn't _have_ to
post anything at all, much less a complete
answer to my or tommy1729's questions. But
still, that won't stop tommy1729 or me from
forming opinions about Ullrich's teaching
style based on the little information we have,
namely what Ullrich posts.
Yes, it won't stop you from making another of your non sequitur
inferences, as this time the non sequitur is the jump from Ullrich's
postings to an evaluation of him in role of teacher, which is not a
role that all his postings must uphold.

According to that logic, it'd be a non sequitur
to conclude that JSH knows nothing about
solving the factoring problem based only on the
fact that nothing JSH has posted is even close
to a solution to the factoring problem.

The truth is that when one is on Usenet, one is
judged mainly by what one posts on Usenet. It
may be that Ullrich really is the world's best
teacher, and it may be that JSH really has
found a factoring method that is computationally
less expensive than current methods.

But since JSH hasn't posted anything to suggest
that he's solved the factoring problem, posters
_rightly_ argue that JSH hasn't really solved it,
and _rightly_ ignore his foolish excuses about
the CIA/FBI/NSA coming after him if he proves
that he's solved it. Until JSH posts something to
the contrary, the majority (including myself) will
will be skeptical about his claims to have solved
the factoring problem.

Similarly, Ullrich has strongly implied in his
recent post that he values entertainment over
teaching, and so that's what I (and a few others)
will believe until Ullrich posts something from
which I actually learn.

I've learned from many people at sci.math,
including Israel, David Hartley, Mariano Suarez,
and even MoeBlee and Denis Feldmann to some extent,
among many others. But unfortunately, so far David
Ullrich isn't one of them.
