Occasionally there may be some quite substantvie errors in criticisms

And a lot can be learned by people like me from the refutations
offered (and to corrections thereof when they're wrong). Keeping
the cranks honest has some useful side effects, even if in the
end it doesn't help the cranks.

appeal to authority, as well as its opposite, than to what you
actually wrote.]
