basic group theory question, but I can't find the answer.

I am trying to understand an expression like:
SU(2) x SU(3)
I can formulate the two SU groups, but I can't seem to determine what the
operation "x" is properly called or how to explicitly calculate it. Would
someone give me a pointer to the proper terminology so I can look up the
calculation method please?
.
