Another thing.
Back in the day, they didn't have as convenient method for writing down numbers. So the existence of irrational numbers was a highly nontrivial fact. And it still is, but it seems trivial since in school, we are taught that
"Oh it's just a decimal that goes on forever without any repetitions."
Modern mathematics are still being developed, which is part of the reason why they seem so complicated looking. Of course, people have different standards for "complicated."
If you want to play at simple high school algebra level, which is not to be confused with the level of the Greek mathematicians, then you are free to do so.
