Re: exact solution to 2nd order ODE

Hi everyone,

I need to find a solution v ( ) to the following equation:

b v ( x ) = - exp ( - x ) - ( 1/2) ( g * v ' ( x ) )^2 + a ( m -
x ) v ' (x) + S v ' ' ( x )

where:
0 < b < 1
g>0
0 < a < 1
m is a real number
S > 0

The function v ( ) should be defined on all the reals.
Can anyone help? I'd love to get an exact solution to that equation.
Where would you suggest I look for methods of solving?

Thanks very much in advance.

Warmly,

Dan Simundza

Hello,
since the equation isn't autonomous and is nonlinear of second order, my
first guess would be that there is no explicit solution. You could try
it with Maple or Mathematica.
Why do you need to solve it?
If it is homework, then you should find some hint in the recent
handouts.
