Basically the conclusion was (and James seems to agree) that the
algorithm works but it was not as efficient as existing algorithms.
This would explain why any traffic to the MyMath site has not
translated to anyone actually using the algorithm.

Well, reality is a moving target which is why continual testing is a
sign of intelligence.

Things are not settled just because one point of view dominates for a
while and from what I'm seeing the world's assessment contradicts
anything that has been presented on these newsgroups.

I picked this thread because I thought you wanted to separate discussion
of the hit count on your site from the core validity of your algorithm.

Now some types of reality do change as people's ideas change; I am
thinking in the areas of the social sciences. However when it comes to
mathematical truth something is true or it is not irregardless of the
majority opinion. This is something you yourself have stressed many times
(and at length) on this forum.

Also, if the method I've given for solving quadratic residues is moving
out through the world, it wouldn't necessarily be something that you
would notice as you're one human being on a planet with over 6.78
billion.

It seems remarkable to me that I need to point that out to you.

There are many things happening of which you have no clue.

Ah James, will I ever be able to ask you a question without you providing
a negative assessment of my character?

Just saying that people are using your algorithm does not make it so. Can
I suggest you make a post on your site asking for stories about how
people are using your work? If there is as much interest as you say then
surely one person at least will come forward.

That discussion was from November last year; have I missed anything in
the meantime?

My math blog is building appeal. Before the trend was visits from 40
countries every 30 days, and all of last year I got hits from only 107
countries but that has already been beat this year, while I'm seeing
hits from about 60 countries every 30 days (recently dropping as
currently I have only 56 countries but that is against overall trend).

As I ponder the growth in readership by country counts I'm impressed by
the emphasis on one particular area which is solving quadratic residues,
so I'm studying why that might be.

The world is saying that is of interest.

Unlike you, I can rely on worldwide data to see what research of mine is
appealing at any given time.

And the world is saying: solving quadratic residues

So now I'm wondering why.

James Harris

I see that part of the data which you have chosen to release. You have
not released the total hit count but that is not a problem as I can look
it up on Alexa. I would interpret the the data differently. Remember
there are over 6.78 billion people in the world. The amount of net
traffic that comes from this many people can and does generate a kind of
static on any site as people visit a site while searching around and then
immediately move on. In your case the I would in fact say the traffic is
on the low side given your presence here. You would choose to disagree; I
would suggest you are not unbiased. The best approach then is to get
feedback. Remember, continual testing is a sign of intelligence.

Regards, MichaelW.

P.S. Speaking as someone whose work sometimes takes him into this area
can I suggest (1) that you employ a better theme as the current one is
very unprofessional looking (2) loose the video bar, it does not belong
on a technical website (3) consider getting your own domain name; using
blogspot (in my opinion) sends the wrong message but not all agree.
