If it only were his basic motives for doing what he is doing. He is arguably motivated by much baser motives, but he is too deceitful to admit it, and too cowardly to admit it to himself.
My main reason to claim this is that musatov's actions do not lead him closer to his avowed goal: there are much more effective ways of reaching his avowed goal, but musatov repeatedly ignores these.
musatov lieks to hide his inner putrefaction by hiding behind a good cause. Anything is fair game to a lie and cheat like him.
