Hi there! I am going to do my best to not ramble with my entry.
Background:
1. I am 43 yrs. old, and cycle 30 miles per day (I used to marathon).
I am a very healthy weight (110 lbs/ 5'3").
2. my paternal grandfather died of a heart attack, but he was heavy –
my maternal grandma died of arteriosclerosis (or atherosclerosis).
3. I have had low blood pressure for over 35 years.
4. my resting heart rate is 70 bpm – working out it gets to 147.
5. I use approx 7 gr. sodium/ 12 gr. potassium per day (many Emergen-C
electrolyte packets, and lots of Lite Salt).
6. My fat intake is about 14-15 gr./day, with a good 1500 calories/day
(a good amount of rice protein/beef gelatin, rarely eating meat and/or
fish, with a decent amount of carbs).
7. I haven't had an alcoholic drink in 23 years, and never smoke
cigarettes.
Symptoms:
 When laying down to go to sleep the pulse of blood in the
left side of my neck (carotid artery?) is heavy, and within minutes
begins to feels like a slight squeezing sensation (tickle/squeeze –
maybe minute spasm is a better description) comes on. To remedy this I
make a fist and place it under when the pulse is. This seems to last
at least until I am asleep. I also feel these weird electrical "jumps"
which make my body wince while it is all going on.
 Three to four times/year I will find myself in a desperate
battle, while sleeping on my stomach, to turn over onto my back in
order to get a breath. After what seems to be a strenuous war, I wake
up out of breath, and my heart is beating pretty quick.
 In the past 6 mos. I went through a period of heavy
exhaustion, with no explanation as to why. At the same time I was
having bouts of not being able to reasonably take a deep breath, and
quite often having shortness of breath. These symptoms seem to have
passed.
 In the past 2 weeks I have had 2 dreams whereas in the dream
I was passing out, and felt very much life-like. Not sure if you can
pass out for real while sleeping.
 For the past 10 mos. I have been drinking a bit excess water
(2-3 gallons per day), which I am sure cannot be helping, but most of
the symptoms had already existed. I've had 4 blood tests done since
March which show my sodium/potassium levels as fine.
 Most of the symptoms oddly are quite increased when I have
gas. Even odder than that is I have a mole the size of a U.S. nickel
on my left calf which stings ONLY when I have gas. As far as I am
aware I do not have any gastro-intestinal disease – no other symptoms.
 I carry everything in my left hand/arm, and in the past week
I have noticed waking up with a bad ache in my upper back under the
left shoulder blade. The pain lessens as the day goes on. I also
notice weird pains in my left calf, VERY sporadically. Once in a while
I will get a mild quick throbbing pain in my left, and/or right
shoulder, but not a shooting pain, and not down my arm.
Thanks!!
dorothy
