The question is poorly framed then.
Who said anything about bee's wax? And second of all, on what basis do
you make your judgment?
Modest elevation of LDL is probably nothing to worry about. Diet and
exercise then can have the needed approximately 10% improvement that
data suggest can be achieved. As Henriette points out, there is some
controversy over what TC and LDL elevations mean (besides a fat,
profitable market for selling more statins).
Policosanols, by contrast, have a relatively robust literature in
terms of clinical studies that underscore their potential benefit.
Most of the studies have been undertaken in Cuba (where, I was just
reading incidentally, the infant mortality rate is LOWER than in the
U.S.)

I think the biggest trick is reducing caloric intake and consuming a
nutrient dense diet for optimal health, along with exercise. If there
is any one maxim that may apply to ALL individuals, that may well be
it.
The Atkins approach might be a short-term method for helping an obese
person lose some weight fairly rapidly. There are clinical data to
support that (a low carb diet, that is, which means high protein and
high fat). However, the effects tend to dwindle after 6 months.
There will never be on methodology suitable to all, of course. Such
issues as obesity must be addressed on an individual basis, taking in
the gestalt of the individual, preferably adopting a variety of
appropriate avenues. In short: holistically.
