alternatices to statins

I am new to all this so if i don't follow protocol someone just please
call me on it.
In July of '01 i had 90% blockage to a main artery (widowmaker) and
was given a stent.(i should state that i am now 51) Along with the
stent came the drugs. After an initial follow-up with the cardiologist
it was determined that i didn't need any blood pressure meds but they
decided to put me on a statin treatment. Over the course of 4 years i
have used Zocor, Mevacor, Pravacor, Genfribrizil(sp) Niaspin, and until
recently Lipitor. During this period i have experienced muscle cramps
and spasms, chest pain with Mevacor, severe abdominal pain, hot
flashes, lowered libido and now have been diagnosed with peripheral
neuropathy. Statin have been linked to neuropathy which is a numbness
in the feet and or hands.
About a year ago i tried a therapy that included mega doses of vitamin
C and L-lysine. I worked my tolerence to them slowly all the while
using the Lipitor. Each trip to the lab my cholesterol levels were
steadily decreasing. With Lipitor alone it was at 255.The last 3 months
i have stopped taking Lipitor all together. I take 10grams of vitamin C
and 10grams of Lysine as well. I alos take a multi, 81mg aspirin and
200mg of CoQ10. I had my bloodwork done last week for the 1st time
since being totally off of lipitor. My cholesterol was 170!
I'm sharing this information with anyone who wants to try different
approaches then "traditional" treatments.I want to make certain that
anyone wanting to try this knows up front i did NOT have a heart
attack. I had blockage. In fact i was told my heart was in excellent
shape in that i was operating fully functional until the day i chequed
myself in.I have talked with my "cholesterol management team" about non
statin treatments but they would have no part of it. The side effects i
was experiencing did not out weighed the benefits according to
them. When i got my letter from the blood work last week, my doctor not
knowing i haven't taken lipitor in 3 months and that i've been mega
dosing c and lysine gradually wrote " ...it has been a long haul for
you but you are finally well under goal. The last nine months showed
that we finally landed on the treatment that is working best for you.
Keep up the good work!"
I wanted to call this week to let her know that none of what she is
praising me for has to do with Lipitor but she is out of the office
until next week. I'm anxious to here her gasp:)
Anyway, i just wanted to share this with anyone who may be seeking
alternatives. You can Google Dr Linus Paulding and read about the C and
Lysine therapy for yourself. Very informative
Peace,
Amatones
