Actually, because that is the way we evolved. The proof that humans evolved
from other primates is overwhelming.
Remember, the news group is SCIence.MEDicine.cardiology, not
alt.religion.cardiology.
Anyway, this is refered pain. The nerve fibers that carry pain info from the
aorta enter the spinal cord right next to those which carry pain info from
the back. So the brain localizes the pain to the wrong place.
It is like when someone has pain because of a heart attack, but feels the
pain in the jaw or left arm.
