Robert,
I am not a doctor or medical expert. I merely copied two or three
sentences out of a book that was written by Doctor Sandra Cabot. Upon
request, I'll tell you the title of the book and the URL of Dr. Cabot's
website. You could email her via the website to ask your questions. Here's
the exact quotation:
"...[Patient] Joanne did not want to quit HRT altogether so we switched
her to the new combination hormone patches that contain both estrogen and
progesterone. In Joanne's case it was safer and natural to give forms of
HRT that are absorbed directly into the circulation, thus bypassing the
liver. This reduces the work load upon the liver and have less tendency to
cause weight gain than the tablet (oral) forms of HRT."
I am sorry that I can't provide a better answer to your question. If
anyone else can provide a better answer to Robert's interesting question,
feel free to do so.
Jason
