Odd symptoms - can you help?

Dear Group

I wonder if anyone on this group can suggest a reason for the following.

For 5 years now my wife has suffered from a very peculiar set of symptoms.
She will suddenly feel very, very cold even in a warm house or sat in front
of a fire or on a hot sunny day - she describes it as feeling as though
there is a layer of ice under her skin. She becomes so cold that she shivers
and her skin is covered in goose-bumps. But, and here's the odd thing, her
temperature is nearly normal - just down a degree if that. No matter how
much she wraps herself up, she just can't get rid of this feeling of
coldness from her skin. This is not just in her extremities, but her whole
body. She wraps herself up in layers of clothes in bed, but she is still
cold and doesn't sweat at all. Someone "normal" would be sweating heavily.

About the same time, five years ago, she began to complain of a numb patch
(or sensation) just to the left of centre in her back, a sensation which
seemed to be aggravated (a heavy feeling) when she coughed or exercised. She
also took up smoking about the same time!

Our Doctor has been totally useless, and seems to be completely lost for any
suggestion on what to do. We had a full body CT scan done a few weeks ago,
and this showed several small cysts on her Liver (Radiographer called them
insignificant), but there was a very small patch of what the radiographer
referred to as Emphysema on her left Lung.

Any excretion seems to bring on the symptoms as does stress, but they can
also just start without any apparent reason.

We are now at the end of our tether as for what to do next, and we would
welcome any advice from the experts who read these postings.

To protect my wife's identity a friend has let us use his email address to
post this, so please reply to him or directly to the group. His email
address is paulstaton2004@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Many thanks
Chris
