THE FACTS For years, scientists have suspected that a chemical in many
household deodorizing products may cause short-term lung problems ? and
possibly worse.

Volatile Organic Compounds and Pulmonary Function in the Third National
Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, 19881994 (Environmental Health
Perspectives)
Association of Domestic Exposure to Volatile Organic Compounds With
Asthma in Young Children (Thorax)

Now it appears that those concerns are probably valid. In a study
published this month, scientists at the National Institutes of Health
say they found that people with relatively high blood concentrations of
the substance ? 1,4-dichlorobenzene, an organic chemical ? show signs of
slightly reduced lung function. The chemical is also in mothballs,
tobacco smoke and toilet deodorizers.

Other studies have had similar findings. One, published in the journal
Thoraxlast year, found that asthma risk in small children climbs as
their home exposure to 1,4-DCB increases. The simple solution,
scientists say, is to limit the use of such products.

THE BOTTOM LINE Studies suggest chronic exposure to a chemical in air
fresheners can cause lung problems.

Scary!

Bill

Nothing in and of this world is scary for those who have placed their
faith in LORD Jesus Christ.

We have received HIS gift of eternal life when HE paid for our freedom
from the wages owed for the sins that we have committed against GOD:
