Re: Quesiton: How many RAD exposure on a dual-source CTA vs 64-slice CTA?

Simple question. Any simple answers? I have a test on a 64-slice CT
scheduled. I have gotten
totally diverse answers to this simple question. THere is a newer CT
Angiogram machine that
is called the "dual-source." (Siemens) and there is the not-as-new,
64-slice CT angiogram.

What, in actual fact, is the actual difference in RAD exposure between
the Dual Source as opposed
to the 64 slice device? Is a simple, direct answer possible?

I welcome any informed opinions. The answer will determine which one I
choose to have done,
and if anyone is kind enough to reply with informed advice before
Friday of this week, I will be
most grateful as I would cancel the 64-slice one scheduled Friday if
another alternative with less
radiation exposure is available. Thus far, the hospitals involved have
not offered a conclusive
answer, which suggests they are either uniformed about their own
procedures, or uncaring about
patient care, no?

The more exacting answer would be gotten by subjecting a dummy wearing
a dosimetry badge to the CT angiography in both machines multiple times
and averaging the results for each machine. Your actual exposure for
either machine will likely fall in the range empirically determined in
this manner. If you wish an exact answer for yourself, you will need
to also be fitted with a dosimetry badge. It is not likely that the
radiation safety officer would accommodate you on such an information
gathering mission, however.
